Mixed messages

Watching the news is so confusing. They're telling us to stay and shelter in place because we're inland and not in an evacuation zone. Then they say "but we're all gonna die!!!!!!!" The news media needs someone to grab them by the lapels of their ill fitting suit jackets and smack them across the face. Hard. If we're supposed to stay, then reassure us. If we're supposed to go, let us know now.

I think I like the tornadoes in the Midwest a little better. Go about your life, hear a siren, go the basement, come out. Done and done those tornadoes. No built up terror and tension, forty years of darkness, the dead rising from their graves, human sacrifice, dogs and cats living together....mass hysteria!

So, at 8:30 a.m., just a few short hours from Ike making landfall, we still haven't decided what we're doing. What we really want to do is load up the pop-up and have a 3 day weekend of camping somewhere out of the storm area. But....with gas stations out of gas, pulling the pop-up isn't our most fuel efficient decision. So, for now, we're here.

Ummm...no kidding on the mixed messages. I read a news article today that said "those who stay MAY POSSIBLY face CERTAIN death" wtf? So may possibly face something that is certain? lol...I couldn't help but giggle and then had to also stifle it realizing that these are real peoples lives we are talking about and a lot of media folks wanting to "be careful" of the wording or face ridicule like LA did a few weeks ago when they evacuated almost 2 million people in what looked to be a very bad situation - only to be ridiculed as having "over reacted" after nothing severe occurred.

Ron Burgandy says your story is both compelling and rich.
