Eye of the Tiger

I made it through the first week of school and am still able to stand upright! The first week of school should never actually be a week of school--2 days, maybe 3, and then a weekend, please.

My parents, aka 'Mimi' and 'Papa', came to watch Miss F on Thurs. and Friday because her daycare was closed to give the teachers a 5-day weekend. We then all headed to San Marcos, TX to shop the massive outlet centers (notice the 's' as in plural--outlet centerS). I know some people think of San Marcos as home to a university or maybe for tubing down a river. But for my folks, it is synonymous with shopping. And they were very, VERY, generous--Thank you Mimi and Papa! Miss F enjoyed a local park, a nature walk and driving a red car around the outlets (those strollers that look like a car). I enjoyed Weinerschnitzel (yum! childhood fave) and Mr. B and I were able to hit 2 buckets of balls at a driving range. Good time was had by all.

This week I yet again test out my theory that short weeks where the Monday was the holiday always feel longer than a regular week (now, weeks where the holiday is Friday fly right on by).

We had a tough decision to make this past week. We kept it on the D.L. as it was a major decision. Our adoption agency presented us with a file of a child with a medical issue. After checking with pediatricians and experts in the field, we were beginning to think we might go ahead with an adoption (even though we are not quite finished with all the paperwork yet). Then, while my parents were in town, we were discussing the possibility of the adoption and, seeing as they have medical knowledge, looked at the medical records again and noticed something on the file we missed. Another medical need that we could not meet, that would require lots of surgeries and possibly would be unable to be fixed and/or treated. It is hard to turn down a child in need but we are confident that there is a family out there for this little girl. The Chinese believe we are connected by a red thread and we feel there is someone else out there connected to this girl by that thread. But, wow, what a surreal week--first week of school, possible adoption, house guests, weekend travel. Tune in next week to see what chaos is in effect in the B Family!!

I agree about holiday weeks. It is Thursday and the week is dragging.
