I went to the actual rodeo on Friday night to see Janet Jackson. It was a great time and I'd forgotten how many of her songs I knew and loved from way back when. We scored box seats and enjoyed free beer and fajitas as well as having great seats for the show.
We went to the Livestock Show/Carnival as a family on Sunday. I've come to look at this event as my MN State Fair since, well, I never get to go to the State Fair anymore. We have begun our traditions of hitting the pony ride first, petting the bunnies next, meeting any new baby animals third and then taking a break on the astroturf hill to drink our strawberry or chocolate milk. After that it's off to Fun on the Farm, then rides, then games, then eat, then home. We are hoping to repeat again before it leaves town.
My biggest disappointment is never finding any fun or unusual food. I think part of the reason is that we don't go further on the Midway due to the size of our kiddos but I also think that this is Texas and nachos and BBQ rules and perhaps they don't really care if they eat a chocolate bacon or a hotdish on a stick. If we return, my mission is to eat someting unusual on a stick or unusually fried. Here's my shrimp BLT. It was good but not worthy of the "OMG, did you eat the ________ at the Rodeo this year?"

I'd also like to finally get to the horse barn. We've never gone to the horse barn and we also didn
't have time for the pig races or mutton bustin' (where they stick little kids on the backs of sheep). Miss F actually asked to mutton bust and while I am sure it would be a photographic moment, the aftermath of her falling off a sheep and getting stepped on and thrown in the dirt would not be worth the cute photo. McButter learned that she does, indeed, like to ride ponies and carnival rides.
