Hot town, summer in the city

Fruits of our labor...well, sorta, I mean we picked them but we didn't grow 'em. These blackberries and blueberries have ended up on ice cream, in muffins and just plain in our mouths. Yum. We are, however, inspired to start a garden next spring.

Bayou Wild Animal Park--Miss F meets a camel. This was fun and Miss F loved seeing all the animals (we got to feed 'em, too) but I always wonder if this is something I should enjoy. I mean, is this sad for the animals or happy? Is it better than a zoo--they're free and we feed them or is it worse? Where do I fall on the animal rights spectrum? So, a fun day gets turned into deep thoughts and questioning all that I stand for. In the end, it was fun and we got to walk with the animals, talk with the animals.....this was Sunday of the July 4th weekend.

Miss F "driving" at the Drive-In. I have been waiting all summer to do this. I love drive-in movies. We saw "Wall*E" and it was a double feature with "Kung Fu Panda" but it got late and Miss F wasn't sleeping in the bed we'd made her in the back (like the time my parents went to see "Saturday Night Fever" and I was in the back of the ol' Pinto watching the other screen showing "Love at First Bite" when I was supposed to be sleeping). We did this on Saturday of the July 4th weekend.

The wagon and the wee one decorated for the July 4th parade in our 'hood. Miss F was a bit crabby when she realized she was in the parade not watching the parade. And where was the marching band? Why is this parade all bikes and wagons and strollers? After the parade we went swimming for a few hours, napped and then headed out to see the Houston Symphony play (1812 overture with cannons!) and watch the fireworks with friends. it was at an outdoor theatre so the kids ran like wildebeast.

The Sk8er Grrrl. Notice the wet skirt. This was from a bubble accident. She insisted on wearing a bubble necklace. She then proceeded to open it and dump it all over herself while in the car. Lesson learned. She still talks about not opening bubbles in the car.

Yeah, I know how you feel about the whole zoo thing, especially when you see them pacing around, all crazy and stuff. I tell the boys that they are "Zoo Crazy". I guess I see how much my kids learn from them and that the animal kingdom is better off that people get this kind of education. They are marytrs, but it doesn't seem quite fair because they did not volunteer for the job.
