Summer Shandy

Hello and Happy Memorial Day (or at least, Happy Three Day Weekend and A Moment of Silence of those Memorialized on this Memorial Day)

We've had a great weekend (as the photo shows with Miss F's inagural sprinkler run for Summer '08) and a great couple weeks since I last blogged. This week is the last week of school and I am ready for summer fun!

Here's the highlights of our weekend (yes, this all happened from Friday night to Monday afternoon):

1. Went to the Miller Outdoor Theatre's annual Motown Revue. It's (obviously) an outdoor theatre with lawn seating. We brought a picnic and were able to enjoy the sounds of Motown while people watching. Miss F was getting down with her bad-self to all the hits--Dancing in the Streets, Tenderness (love me some Otis), Midnight Train to Georgia, etc.

2. Went to the Pompeii exhibit at the Museum of Fine Arts Houston. I've always been fascinated by Pompeii and it's always a popular topic with the students at school. Mr. B and I took Miss F and she now tells everyone that "the volcano knocked the houses down". She also liked the slave bracelets because they looked like snakes. I was fascinated by the archaeologists ability to pour plaster into the ashes and have the molds of people who were caught off guard by the explosion

3. We saw "The Gershwin's An American in Paris" at the Alley Theatre. If you know what I mean when I say 'S Wonderful, then you must see this show (it's in Houston a bit longer but I suspect it will be traveling to a city near you)

4. We visited with an old roommate of Mr. B's and his wife and kids up in The Woodlands where there just happens to be a Culver's. So, yes, I got my Culver's on--Double Butter Burger and a custard! So good and soooo Midwest.

5. We grilled out with another old roommate of Mr. B's and had brats and Leinie's--both the Sunset Wheat AND the Summer Shandy. Both available at my local grocery. Woot!!

6. Miss F had a fabulous playdate. I thought Miss F was, well, perhaps a bit anti-social. She's been known to say "I don't like people" and often spends playdates reading by herself in the corner. I found out today that the key is one-on-one. And, the little girl right across the street was a perfect fit. I didn't have to jump in and stop any screaming, hitting or crying. They played together--really together, too, not just near each other--for 2.5 hours with no adult interaction whatsoever.

7. We are prepared for a hurricane. Sorta.

Funny Miss F stories involving music:

1. While listening to the radio in Mr. B's truck:
Miss F "Daddy, what song is this?"
Daddy "Another Somebody Done Somebody Wrong Song"
Miss F "What he do, daddy?"

2. While listening to classic rock with me outside
Miss F "What is this song?"
Me "It's an Eric Clapton Song" (because it was "Cocaine" and I didn't feel appropriate telling her that)
Miss F "Can I sing this song?"
Me "No"

Miss F at the Art Car parade. She's not real thrilled with the telephone car. However, to her it's just a red thing--as phones don't really look that that anymore, do they?
