So I Married An Axe Murderer....

We had a nice, quiet weekend. Really! I think everyone would be impressed.

Friday night I made French Toast and bacon for dinner. Made the french toast with King's Hawaiian bread left over from last week's baby shower. It was yummy stuff. We cleaned and prepared for our Home Study for the adoption.

Saturday morning found Mr. B at the eye doctor for a regular check-up and Miss F and I at gymnastics doing a make-up class for missing our regular Thursday class (due to my teaching VBS last week). Then our social worker arrived and we had a 2 hour interview/meeting with her in preparation for the adoption. Of course, I was so nervous...I worried that she'd come in, see a wire or the fireplace hearth un-childproof and just waiting for a cracked noggin and not only decide we can't adopt but immediately take Miss F away from such horrible conditions. Add to that, I always worry that background checks will find things I didn't even know I'd done--or worse, someone stole my identity and was doing horrible things like being caught on Dateline's "To Catch a Predator". Maybe I know nothing about Mr. B. Maybe secretly he's an axe murderer or something?!? Naturally, all went well and she said we are doing everything right and are where we need to be to continue with the process.

Saturday evening had us making Rachael Ray's "Korean Flank Steak and Sweet and Spicy Slaw". As RR would say, the steak was Yum-O (and we did a bit of shrimp in the marinade, too, double Yum-O). But the slaw, eh, as my cousin would put on her blog "Yum but not Yum-O". We watched "Garden State". Blah. When an 'indie' says 'hilarious' on the box it usually means depressing. It wasn't "Lost in Translation" horrible but it wasn't "Saved" or "Best in Show" brilliance.

Today we were going to get outside--zoo, maybe ride the train, go to the park--then it rained. AGAIN. Every single day it rains. ARGH. So we went to the Natural Science Museum and saw a "Frogs" exhibit. Miss F preferred the stuffed (aka 'taxidermied') animals over the poison dart frogs but a good time was had by all.

Currently Mr B is starting a daunting project of updating the bathroom. Miss F is napping. I'm blogging, baking muffins and previewing my new workout videos (notice I'm not doing them but sitting and watching them)

*So I Married An Axe Murderer soundtrack is really fantastic. The movie, not so much, though I do enjoy shouting the lines "We've got a piper down!" or "Tell her about the time you s--t your pants at Niagra Falls" in a Scottish accent at random times. That way I know who's in the pop culture 'know' and a true soulmate.

Did you Tivo the World Series of Pop Culture 2007 tournament on VH1? Mike and I thoroughly enjoyed last year's tournament, and I was so proud that I caught this year's and recorded all episodes. I think of you when we watch it! And going to a museum nullifies your "do nothing" weekend. At least you didn't entertain any neighbors or friends...that's something!

Mr. B's hometown was mentioned on CBS news this morning. Apparently the rain hit it hard. Did you get the emailed Hudson story?
