So you better get this potty started

I think we may be nearing the potty training phase. It fills me with such glee and yet I am terrified. I know there is a science to it. I know that if I mess this up, as Freud hypothesized, my child could become anal retentive. I had hoped to wait it out until she miraculously just did it one day--perhaps even being taught by daycare or someone other than me. Alas, this may not be the case. The other day Miss F kept talking about the potty and she carried her doll, her Care Bear and a stuffed dog to the potty. I was cooking dinner and just thought, gee, how cute, she is playing with the potty. Later, I realized she'd been pottying during that time and was probably trying to tell me something. Today she said "I poo-poo" and I asked if she needed to go to the potty. She ran like a crazed lunatic to the potty and tried to get on. We were too late, however, at having her actually go in the potty but I think the process has started. Daycare told me on Friday that she's starting to 'get it' and will tell them 'I poo-poo'.

We had Flat Stanley with us last weekend/week. We took him to get a shot of downtown Houston. I figured, some of you might never have seen the skyline of H-town (and for that, some of you might be thankful). We live about 7 miles from this park.

We had a great weekend. Yesterday we went to the 7th Annual Dragonboat Festival downtown on the bayou. Teams of 20 rowed actual Hong Kong Dragonboats in races all day. On top of that there were performers from China, Korea, Japan and Polynesian dancers. Miss F loved it. She especially loved learning how to pick up speed by running downhill. Today we met a friend at the park and played, ran through the splash park and got soaked and then fed the ducks. I think we're eating dinner with some friends tonight in a playdate/grill out event.

Mr. B and I watched 2 movies this weekend. It's a record--we watched "Little Miss Sunshine" and "Bobby". Both were fantastic. "Bobby" was a bit slower but what a story of intertwined lives on the day/night Bobby Kennedy was shot. I also saw "Spider Man 3" on Thursday (my school rented a theatre and had a sneak preview). It was good, too, but no more. Please, no more and the 'emo' Spidey was a bit much. Special effects, though, and Topher Grace (yum) made it worthwhile.

I thought that "Bobby" was great! I know that the media critics panned it...but I was in high school at the time and the "moment" was "monumental". That summer was an awful time in our history; but it is what it was. I loved the actual TV film footage intertwined with Hollywood actor filming. The cameos were superb. As your cousin Madeline would say, "It's a keeper".
